Backstory:
Verity’s mother died in an accident when Verity was still very young. The loss broke her father’s
heart, and he became an alcoholic. Verity took care of her father and tried to find something to
help heal him. She became a scuttlebot and earned a dazzling reputation on the amateur circuit,
qualifying for the Mars Olympics in ‘22. There, a record-setting performance fell apart when the
next pilot broke her record and knocked her to second place. Heartbroken, she performed poorly
in subsequent events, coming away with a solitary silver medal. She’d seen a victory as a way to
inspire her father, and she felt she’d failed him instead. Verity withdrew from further competition
and took a job as a librarian with ExoLogos Data Services.
Verity joined the rebellion after Imperial Police killed her father during a strike. It was the final
piece that crystallized her desire to stand against the Empire’s tyranny. Rebel Command selected
her as a pilot and placed her under the command of the charismatic Terran renegade called Bek.
Despite her considerable piloting ability, Verity’s not very confident of herself. She has also
developed a crush on Bek. The older hands among the rebels shake their heads and hope she’ll
get over it by the time the real shooting starts.
